Cider Making 2024

Cider Making 2024 - Annual event for cider club members to use the club equipment to press apples for either their own cider making endeavours - or contribute towards the community cider. (Members only: non-members, please join before booking).

It's that time of the year again when we get together to press apples in order to create England's most northerly cider!

The Cider Club equipment is available to all members, free of charge, every year to process their apples. so they can practice the ancient art of cider making.

You have the option of either taking your juice away to make your own cider - or contribute to the community cider vat's for members to enjoy when it's all packaged next year. This latter option is a very popular option due to the communal and social aspect of the pressing & packaging (and assessing!). For those participating in the community cider, there is a one-off joining fee (£5) and then £5 for each 10L you take to cover packaging and other costs (re-using bags and boxes reduces this).

This year's event is to take place on Sunday 26th November.

Importantly, there is a change of venue this year. After many years of the event being hosted at High Mosser Gate, and drawing upon Mark & Alison's hospitality, we really need more space to accomodate both Mark's operation and the NCOG juicing equipment and events. After a search, Mike Taylor, who is one of our new members, has agreed to host the NCOG apple pressing operation. Having visited his place it has all the facilities & space we need. The location is high in the hills above Wigton. The address is Thornthwaite Hall, CA7 8NG.

The venue will be signposted on the day - and don't worry Mark still intends to be very involved in this side of the Group's activity.

To attend you'll need to make a booking for the day (via "My NCOG") - so if you could please do that - it'll let us know who's coming and when. It really helps with avoiding everyone turning up at the same time and having to queue.

Hope to see you there - even if you've only a small amount of apples to press.

Session Start End Available
Cider Making 2024 - AM 26/11/23 10:00 am 26/11/23 12:30 pm Yes

Just a reminder that if bringing apples it's best to have a bit of a sort through to make sure they're fairly clean and there's no rotten ones.

There's limited facilities on-site so best to bring your own snacks for when we break for refreshment. Sharing of cakes/biscuits etc. is always a feature of our events and tea/coffee will be available

Also, if you can't decide whether to come to the AM/PM session - we always glad to see people at the PM session as it makes the cleaning process a lot quicker afterwards
