Found in the garden of shoemaker Mr. Greenup in Keswick in the early 18th C and introduced in 1769. Widely grown throughout the border counties in the 19th C. Mid-season cooker; pick September for use through to November. Trees are vigorous, hardy & upright-spreading, disease resistant and will tolerate adverse conditions. Fruit medium large, yellow/green with bright red flush. Flesh creamy white, firm, crisp & juicy, cooks to a creamy purée with a sweet-sharp flavour.
