This is a curious apple named after the woman who first raised it. She was Florence Bennett of Crosby Green, Liverpool and she found a seedling growing in her rubbish heap. Its parentage is likely to involve Bramley's Seedling but is otherwise unknown. These apples have soft white flesh and are particularly large in shape; conical and rounded. Whilst it is occasionally used as a dessert apple, Florence is described as acidic and comparable to a lemon, so is perhaps more properly used in sauces or for culinary purposes. Florence was first received by the National Fruit Trials in 1971.
This is an average sized tree and will grow to around 3 metres on MM106 rootstock
