COOKING
Newton Wonder was allegedly found growing through the thatched roof of a pub in King's Newton, Derbyshire, and whether this is true or not it makes a good story. However, given the useful propensities of birds to spread pips, it may be rather likely than not. The name is also apt given the relation of Isaac Newton to apples. This apple much resembles the Bramley in the acidity and sharpness of its flavour, although if anything it's slightly sweeter. Newton Wonder is one of the largest apple varieties out there, and in appearance is large, slightly flattened, with waxy greenish flesh that can have a bronze flush. The bronze flush reddens as the apple matures. Its flesh is firm and cream coloured.
