Pitmaston Pineapple is a traditional older English dessert apple, and although on the sweeter scale of sweet to acidic, it possesses some unique notes to its flavour. As the name would suggest, Pitmaston Pineapple has a subtle musky pineapple tone - a tropical fruitiness with a hint of honey also. This apple is relatively small in size with a pale russet-gold skin and usually some flecks. Its shape is distinctly square and its flesh is creamy and may be tender. It originated as a seedling of Golden Pippin and was presented to the London Horticultural Society in 1845 by Mr Williams, who first grew it at Pitmaston in Worcestershire.
