Pott’s Seedling

COOKING

JUICE

Pott's Seedling, although a probable parent of the more celebrated James Grieve, has now somewhat fallen out of favour. It was probably first cultivated in the 1840s by Samuel Potts of Ashton-under-Lyme, but soon came to be pass commercially produced. Historically it was widely used in juice, though that is not so much the case these days. Also sometimes known as Dean's Codlin, this apple is characteristic of the Codlin cultivars of apple in being yellowish green in colour, conical to flat and occasionally featuring dark spots. It has a short stem and white fine-grained flesh. Pott's Seedling tastes tart, acidic and fairly dry.
